概要
大谷資料館は、1919 年から1986 年の約70 年をかけて
掘り出されていた大谷石や、広大な地下採掘場跡を展示、体験できる資料館です。資料館の展示では、大谷石の発掘の歴史を学ぶことが出来るなど、様々な体験や学習ができる施設となっています。とくに地下採掘場跡は、広さは2 万平方メートル、深さは30 メートルもあり、その大きさや広さは野球場がひとつ入ってしまうほどです。
その石肌には、ツルハシの跡が残るなど採掘時代の歴史の重みを感じさせ、巨大地下建造物を思わさせるその景観には圧倒されることでしょう。
Summary
Oya Museum displays Oya stones collected for 70 years between 1919 and 1986 as well as a large, former underground quarry. At the museum, you can experience and learn various things including the history of Oya stone mining. The former underground quarry is 20,000 square meters and 30 meters deep which is large enough to have a baseball field inside. You can see the traces of pick-axes on stone surface and feel the history of the mining era. The scenery reminds you of an enormous underground structure that is absolutely amazing.
